Ma Méduse à moi / My own Medusa

I've been toying with the idea of trying to produce my own rendition of Medusa, arguably my all time favourite mythological character.
There is a lot in common between the main character of my graphic Novel- temporarily called "Stella"-, Medusa and La Vouivre, a snake woman belonging to the European folklore. Last night, before I went to sleep, I felt the urge to try a sketch and here it is. Of course the the front snakes are technically flawed as they shouldn't hang this way with the character emerging from the still water. That's because, my first intention was to draw Stella standing up, before I decided she would be waving in a river.
Anyway, I kind of like this sketch that I made in less than thirty minutes and I will certainly use it to draw an inner  cover as it is reflecting very well a chapter of my story.

Encrage / Inking

Didn't post anything for a while. Was waiting for the muse to come back; now we're dancing barefoot again. Hopefully, it will last.
Been inking and drawing very actively in the last two months.

A detail of a plate where the magician is trying to escape from a murderer.
Sure, she doesn't look that afraid ;-)

Here are two characters of my graphic novel. Tom, on the left, will disappear quite quickly but his spirit shall linger for many pages. He's a musician, a poet, who has lost his muse. All he is left with is the most precious thing he ever had: a book gathering his work.
Tom will confront the Old Assassin (on the right), a mysterious man, who stares with sadness in his eye but got the hand stained with blood. The Old Assassin signed a deal a long time ago which now forces him to search for dangerous books and to kill their authors.

It wasn't possible to see the pictures in full size: I just fixed the issue.

La jeune magicienne / The young magician

I have summoned the figures of Klimt, witches and enchantresses for this plate. It is placed at the beginning of the story: after she survived a storm, the young magician is thrown on the shores of an unknown land where, almost at once, she feels she is observed.

D'après Carlos Schwabe / After Carlos Schwabe

While trying to catch the mood of the universe I am creating, I did quite a lot of illustrations that will arguably be used for covers or inner illustrations of my future graphic novel. Among them, an interesting one according to me is the one below, done just after I was enthralled by a painting of German born Carlos Schwabe (1866-1926) whose work was at the junction of Symbolism and Art Nouveau.

Schwabe's painting was used to illustrate Baudelaire's Flowers of Evil. You wonder why: here is beauty intertwined with monstuosity.

I was inspired by Schwabe's work and therefore I imagined the main female character of my story struggling with a headless sea snake (actually, a closer inspection will reveal she gave up already), reminiscent of Schwabe's twisted siren. I confess a bit of Hokusai's touch can be recognized in the way I drew the waves.

I shall paint that drawing later on.
