Projet de couverture: Stella et le Serpent./ Cover project: Stella and the Snake.

Voici un illustration qui me tient particulièrement à coeur. C'est une allégorie: l'héroïne, Stella, vient de se battre contre un serpent gigantesque, symbole évident du mal, et les deux adversaires sont emportés par une mer déchaînée. Si le serpent est vaincu et a perdu la tête, Stella, elle, est à moitié inconsciente. Sur quels rivages va-t-elle être rejetée?

Ce travail est le résultat de nombreuses influences: Carlos Schwabe, l'Art Nouveau, Baudelaire, le symbolisme et sans doute un peu de Shojo manga aussi :-)

J'ai voulu utiliser cette illustration pour la couverture extérieure de Voleurs de Feu mais je me dis que ce n'est pas très lisible (dans tous les sens du terme) et qu'il faudrait peut-être une illustration plus "catchy". Si mon choix se porte sur un autre illustration, je garderai celle-ci en tant que couverture intérieure (il y en aura 3 pour les trois chapitres du livre).

J'ai fait quelques essais couleurs il y a quelques temps mais c'est encore loin d'être convaincant. Je recherche des couleurs crépusculaires"et solaires pour mes Voleurs de Feu mais retranscrire sur le papier ce que j'ai en tête est loin d'être facile. Mais je finirai bien par trouver!

Here is an illustration that I hold dear. It's an allegory: the main character, Stella, just battled a gigantic snake, obvious symbol of evil, and the two opponents are now swept away by a raging sea. The snake has been vanquished and lost its head but Stella is in a semi-unconscious state.The shores that will receive her body is yet to be known.

This work is the result of many influences: Carlos Schwabe, Art Nouveau, Baudelaire and Symbolism and I guess a bit of Shojo manga as well :-)

I first wanted to use this illustration for the front cover of The Thieves of Fire but I'm wondering if this cover would be clear enough. I might need something more catchy to the eye. If I eventually choose another cover, I will surely keep this one though for one of my inner covers (there will be three of them in my graphic novel).

Some time ago, I attempted to add some colors but it is far from convincing. I'm seeking for twilight and solar colors for my Thieves of Fire but to retranscribe on the paper what is in your mind is not an easy task. But I'll find out!
